What We Think
This Parque das Dunas is just metres from the extraordinary sweep of the Praia des Chaves beach and is truly a quiet retreat – it might just be the perfect place to relax and unwind.
When we say ‘just metres from Praia des Chaves’ we’re not exaggerating! Many rooms open out onto the beach itself, and the main body of the hotel is just a few short steps from this quintessential Cape Verdean beach. We’re not overstating the peace and calm at Parque das Dunas either: it’s a genuine haven on this already quiet island.
The rooms here are simply furnished bungalows, all surrounded by well-tended gardens of bougainvillea. The pool area sits adjacent to these gardens and is flanked by sun loungers, with shaded areas provided by numerous palm trees. The bar and restaurant area is an informal affair, with seating inside and out where you can enjoy your favourite cocktail and some of the excellent pasta and sea food from the menu.
Should you wish to venture out of the hotel there is a shuttle bus to the small island capital of Sal Rei, where you can explore the restaurants and bars or venture further afield to the rugged Boa Vistan interior and beyond.
Our opinion: A relaxed small and friendly hotel in a superb location on one of the best beaches in the archipelago.
