What We Think
The Foya Branca is a versatile resort-style hotel, combining an excellent location next to the São Pedro beach with some superb facilities.
It’s quickly become the favoured hotel for twin-centre holidays, as it’s at once a hotel perfect for the more adventurous of our customers looking for activities and the chance to explore Mindelo, the archipelagos renowned cultural capital, and yet secluded enough to also be a relaxing retreat by the sea.
The hotel is situated in beautifully kept gardens, and overlooks the sandy beach of Sao Pedro. The extensive grounds include two swimming pools, a children’s pool and play area, plus a gym, tennis courts, petanque and even a giant chessboard. Fishing, diving and horse riding can also all be arranged at the hotel during your stay (payable locally).
There is a choice of two bars plus a stylish restaurant and snack bar in which to dine or alternatively a free shuttle bus service takes guests to Mindelo, ten minutes drive away, with its many bars and restaurants.
Guest rooms in the newer block are light and airy with good furnishings throughout and are located over two floors with either a terrace or balcony. The Junior Suites are the original rooms of the hotel - these are sea facing, spacious and can accommodate up to two children and are an ideal choice for families.
We recommend the hotel's main restaurant for dining in the evening, which offers both a la carte, and table d'hote menus. There is a good choice of local and international cuisine on offer with fish options tending to be the wonderfully fresh 'catch of the day'. Although waiter service in general can be slow in Cape Verde in this particular restaurant it is well worth the wait. If you are planning to head out to sample the nightlife in Mindelo after dinner, our tip is to order your food immediately on arrival at the restaurant prior to ordering your drinks.
Our opinion: Foya Branca is a well presented hotel and a good choice for an active or relaxing holiday with vibrant Mindelo in easy reach for a night out.
