What We Think
This is a small, friendly hotel run by a Cape Verdean family. It’s popular with our guests because of its location – close to the heart of Santa Maria and right on a private sandy beach – its excellent restaurant, and for the personal touches in the décor.
Walking into the reception area of the Odjo d’Agua from the bright gardens, you immediately notice the dark wood interior and the antiques and photographs from the owners’ family history. The warmth of the greetings adds to this family atmosphere and the way you’re welcomed and shown around the hotel.
The views from the swimming pool across the private beach to the sea are fabulous; and in the evenings the ‘O Farolin’ restaurant, perched above the sea on a sea wall promontory, comes alive with gentle live music and serves some of the finest sea food anywhere on Sal, all freshly caught that day.
Although tucked away in a private location, the Odjo d’Agua is close enough for a stroll along the main Santa Maria beach, and a mere few hundred meters from the town itself – perfect for exploring the ever-growing number of bars, restaurants and shops.
Our opinion: A delightful hotel particularly suited to couples looking for a beachfront property in a central location.
Pleaae note: Due to a number of steps around the property we do not recommend for those with walking difficulties or young children
