The Morabeza is our most popular hotel in the Cape Verde Islands – and with good reason! It’s family run and friendly, has great facilities and restaurants, and is located just a few steps from the glorious white sandy Santa Maria beach.
Morabeza is a local word meaning ‘hospitality’ - a term which the hotel more than lives up to. It’s the longest established hotel on Sal, and was originally the home of a Belgian family. The fact that it’s now run by the original owners’ granddaughter (one Sophie Macellesi) adds a real sense of continuity and provides the unique family atmosphere. It has developed into a very attractive and much sought after hotel.
The grounds of the hotel are lush and extensive with a broad range of superbly furnished room types and with excellent facilities at every turn: a large quiet pool area with a well-stocked bar, tennis courts and mini-golf, a well stocked play room with games, a pool table and table tennis, archery, a gym. All this and yet the hotel never feels overly busy, it absorbs everything into its air of peace and calm. There is also the superb ‘Le Beach Club’, which is right on the beach and has a reputation for being the perfect spot for lunch.
A popular way to explore the hotel’s excellent restaurants and themed evening meals is to try the Bon Appetit dining option. With this option you get dinner in the 'Les Palmiers' restaurant on the first and last night of your stay and the Saturday barbecue buffet. Plus you’re free to venture out into Santa Maria to try the local bars and restaurants.
Our opinion: Simply the best hotel in Cape Verde in a prime position on Santa Maria beach enjoyed by many returning guests year after year.
