The local currency is the Cape Verde Escudo (CV Esc). This is a local currency therefore you cannot purchase any before you travel.
Euros are widely accepted and we would recommend that you take Euros in place of Sterling. Travellers cheques can be changed on some islands but the charges are high.
Cash Machines
ATM machines can be found at the major banks in most island capitals, but do not accept Mastercard, Maestro or Switch. These will dispense CV Escudos however we recommend that you do not rely solely on these.
Banks are usually open Monday to Friday 0800 - 1500.
Please note that Mastercard credit cards are currently not accepted, only the Visa sign.
