Cape Verde has been ranked second in an annual study of African countries which statistically monitors governments across the continent, up from third place the previous year.
Mauritius was top of the table, whilst Seychelles, Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Ghana, Tunisia, Leotho, and Sao Tome and Principe made up the rest of the top 10.
The study, The Ibrahim Index, is produced by Harvard researchers using data from 2007 and awards scores in four categories:
- Safety and rule of law
- Participation and human rights
- Sustainable economic opportunity
- Human development
