The Sociedade de Desenvolvimento Turistico e Urbano do Porto Novo have indeed announced a 400-million escudos plan to develop the urban area of Curraletes, in the western part of the city of Porto Novo, news agency Inforpress has claimed.
The works, which include the building of social facilities, telephone utilities and roads, but also better sanitation, water and electricity services, is due to start next Saturday on July, 5th.
The coastal area to benefit from the new infrastructure project will extend over 100 hectares of land.
Santo Antao is one of Cape Verde's nine inhabited islands, located just north of Sao Vicente and accessible by plane and ferry.
Visitors to the island often come to go trekking in the forests of eucalyptus, cypress and pine trees or on the slopes of Topo da Coroa, a 1,979-metre high dormant volcano.
